Mountain Aquatic Club is a USA Swimming Coach-Owned-Club located on the Cumberland Plateau in Sewanee, TN. It was formed in 2012 by Nicole Noffsinger-Frazier and Jeff Frazier. Both swam at Sewanee – University of the South and the club uses the 9-Lane Fowler Center pool at the university.
The club objective is provide an opportunity for area swimmers to learn new skills and improve their techniques as well as improve their conditioning. The club is small so the coach to swimmer ratio is no more than 1:15; with many practices sessions having a ratio of 1:10.
The club works on character building and uses John Leonard’s Motto:
- SHOW UP
- Honor Your Team with Your EFFORT
- Do It RIGHT
Mountain Aquatic Club’s Head Coach is John Noffsinger. Coach John brings a wealth of coaching and swimming experience to his role as Head Coach. He volunteered as a Mountain Aquatic Club Coach in 2014 and 2015 as well as Tigershark coach in the 2016 summer season and took on the head coaching position of Mountain Aquatic Club (MAC) in the fall of 2016. Coach John is a certified USA Swimming coach and a Certified Level 3:2 Coach with the American Swim Coaches’ Association.
After starting as an age group swimmer with the University of Hawaii Age Group Team, Coach John swam with Silver Spring MD YMCA in the Washington, DC area. He went on to swim for West Virginia University on an athletic scholarship and was co-captain for the WVU Mountaineers his senior year.
Over the past 30 years, he has coached intermittently in Fort Mead, Maryland, Lufkin, Texas, and Dothan, Alabama. He was also a certified USA Swimming Official, officiating many meets where his three daughters competed.
Coach John’s focus is on building the fundamentals with correct technique and form. He also wants his swimmers to enjoy the sport and have fun while swimming. So, while working on technique and conditioning, he will be challenging swimmers with drills, sets, and sometime games.
